Two standards in computer aided design software are AutoCAD and CorelCAD. The main difference most people think of when comparing the two is cost. However, each one was designed with different purposes. AutoCAD was meant for developers who needed a design that could be rendered in realistic photos, analyzed and provide cost estimates.
CorelCAD offers competitive design options but can’t support the other functions that AutoCAD can. If your company could benefit from outsourcing AutoCAD drafting services, consider Indovance. We’re the market leader for CAD design of any kind!
The action camera is currently on sale for $400, but if you sign up for GoPro's service, the camera price drops to $350 and that includes the service costs. Read about the GoPro Hero 9 Black.

CorelCAD vs AutoCAD : A Comparison
CorelCAD was first released as a general drawing and illustration option for designers and artists. It did not necessarily have the features needed for engineering or architectural design work.
AutoCAD has been considered an industry leader because of its features that allow for complicated engineering and architectural projects. It allows a user to not only design a structure, but also include details such as steps, railings, windows and doors. It also has landscaping tools. Another feature it has that CorelCAD lacks is its ability to design electrical engineering development.
Both software programs have features that allow for parts and assembly modeling and documentation. However, AutoCAD also has cost estimate capabilities as well as animation, rendering and simulation analysis.
An advantage AutoCAD has over CorelCAD is that it is constantly updated. It was developed in the early 1980s but releases new extensions and tools needed by developers in the industry. Corel has been around almost as long, but doesn’t update as often. Corel also focuses more of its attention on developing programs for illustrators and graphic designers rather than for use in the drafting and design industry.
Because Corel is used to create products for regular, everyday users, the software is much easier to learn. AutoCAD’s learning curve is much longer.
CorelCAD and AutoCAD both use the same file formats, making them compatible with different projects. Formats include DXF, DWG, DWF, DWS, DWT and SAT. CorelCAD also supports PNG, PSD, STL, TIF and EPS. AutoCAD supports 3DS and PLT.
Language options are a factor that’s important considering that not all users may speak English. Both offer the software in multiple languages such as Chinese, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Spanish and Russian. The software packs can be downloaded and installed into the software.
The hardware required for both programs are similar. A computer needs a minimum of 4GB of RAM and a Intel processor 2GHZ or higher or an equivalent AMD. The disk space needed differs greatly. AutoCAD needs at least 6GB free and CorelCAD only needs 1GB.
Cost is usually the main factor up for debate when comparing software. CorelCAD is about half the price of AutoCAD, making it more affordable for designers who work on their own or small businesses. It’s considered a cost-effective option that can provide the same tools needed to create basic 2D and 3D design projects.
Overall, the comparison of these programs can be similar to comparing apples and oranges. While they are both computer aided design software packages, choosing one depends on what it will be used for in terms of projects. You wouldn’t bake an orange into a pie, so you wouldn’t choose one program to do the job the other is meant to do.
